Evidence 2023 online programme slot: Day 3, slot 1 & 2: 09:00-11:00
Evidence Tori Dey is a systematic and community engaging approach of communicating research evidence to non-scientific, non-literate populations in a way that is more digestible, less confrontational, and in a language they understand.
Since 2016, eBASE has been communicating science stories to over 100,000 community members including policymakers, practitioners, and citizens on topics ranging from vaccinations, malaria, menstrual hygiene management, education, and climate resilience.
Evidence Tori Dey consists of 7 steps: Identification of the problem, community diagnosis, search of scientific evidence, developing evidence statements, researcher/storyteller collaboration, storytelling session, evaluate impact of storytelling on knowledge, intention, and behavior change.
The approach has been proven to improve knowledge and behavior for zero dose vaccines, COVID-19 prevention, and sexual and gender-based violence. It exploits existing structures like traditional storytellers, community health workers, social workers, and parents teachers associations.
