In this paper, we provide a meta-analysis of the quality of research supported by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), an organization with 48 years’ experience funding scientific research for the development priorities of Southern countries. The majority of the research is undertaken in Southern countries by Southern researchers, spans scientific disciplines from economics to neuroscience, and accepts multi- and trans-disciplinary approaches common in fields such as agriculture or climate change
