Evidence 2023 online programme slot: Day 2, Slot 1: 09:00-10:00
This panel discussion addresses the limited representation of science within the UN General Assembly and aims to inspire procedural changes at the international level. Chaired by Marcela Morales of OTT Consulting, the panel discussion features: Jessica Espey from the University of Bristol, Achan Ramlat from Samahi Research, Frejus Thoto from ACED, Ivor Chipkin of the New South Institute and Anton Cartwright from African Centre for Cities. Through case studies in Benin, South Sudan, Tanzania, and South Africa, the researchers explore the definitions and understanding of evidence in diverse contexts, national-level evidentiary processes, the roles of key stakeholders, and lessons for improving international deliberative processes. The aim of the panel discussion is to share insights and gather feedback from the AEN community. A blog summarising the key findings and recommendations from their case studies will be issued on OTT’s website on the submission of the research to the UNGA, and will be found here: https://onthinktanks.org/
