Launched in 2016, Twende Mbele (meaning “Going forward together” in kiSwahili) is a Pan-African Programme constituted by the governments of Benin, Ghana, Kenya, Niger, South Africa and Uganda, who are interested in learning and sharing best practices regarding the use of monitoring and evaluative (M&E) evidence to strengthen the performance of government development plans, policies, programmes and projects. Twende Mbele has established itself as the go-to ally and resource centre for governments and development partners interested in tackling barriers - found on both the demand and supply sides - to increase the use of M&E and building a culture of evidence-based decision-making and policymaking on the African continent. The programme has trained 200 high-level officials in Evidence-based Policy-making, developed over a hundred open-source ECD resources and hosted numerous learning events for governments to convene, share challenges and best practices, and learn from each other.
