…a new individual! Bilisumamulifna Tefera Kefeni recently joined the Africa Evidence Network (AEN).
As an epidemiologist and senior public health researcher with over nine years of experience, he joined the AEN to align his professional practice with a community that prioritises Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) to address Africa’s most pressing challenges. His career has been dedicated to bridging the gap between rigorous research and actionable policy, having led multiple health technology assessments and evidence syntheses that directly inform national health strategies at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute.
He was drawn to the AEN because of its commitment to pan-African collaboration and its mission to reduce poverty and inequality through the systematic use of evidence. His diverse background, ranging from clinical leadership as a PHCU Director to spearheading outbreak responses as an AVoHC rapid responder for the Africa CDC, has reinforced his belief that data-driven insights are the most powerful tools for improving health outcomes.
He is eager to contribute his expertise in mixed-methods research, systematic reviews, and meta-analysis to the network’s strategic goal of sharing capacities across the EIDM ecosystem. By joining this vibrant community of over 5,000 members, he hopes to foster strategic partnerships that enhance national surveillance systems and advance maternal and child health initiatives across the continent. He looks forward to participating in the AEN’s advocacy efforts to ensure Africa’s voice remains central to global movements for evidence-based governance.
