…a new individual! Prof Byron E. Price recently joined the Africa Evidence Network (AEN) because rigorous, contextually grounded, and policy-relevant evidence is essential for Africa’s sustainable development.
At the Global TIES Alliance (GTA) Foundation, they work at the intersection of Trade, Investment, Education, and Sustainability. He recognises that good intentions alone do not lead to effective policy or lasting impact without evidence-based frameworks.
GTA is distinguished by its commitment to connecting the African continent with its global diaspora. He views the diaspora not as a peripheral group, but as a strategic asset—a source of capital, expertise, experience, and influence. When aligned with continental priorities, the diaspora accelerates transformation. Evidence networks provide the infrastructure needed to make these connections credible and actionable.
Their work reflects this philosophy. They are deploying Vanadium Static Storage Battery (VSSB) energy systems across SADC Member States and collaborating with Indigenous and First Nations communities in North America, whose experiences with resource extraction parallel those in Africa. They are also co-developing the Circular Intelligence Labs (ACIL) platform, which integrates AMR intelligence, pharmaceutical waste reverse logistics, environmental contaminant monitoring, and carbon asset origination. All initiatives are grounded in data from both Africa and diaspora communities.
Through their COIL academic partnership between the University of Johannesburg and Medgar Evers College (CUNY), one of America’s leading Historically Black Colleges and Universities, they are training future economists and policy practitioners in both Africa and the diaspora to generate evidence that advances shared interests.
The AEN provides the essential connections for this work. He joined to both learn and contribute, and to help ensure diaspora voices are integrated into Africa’s evidence ecosystem.
