Conversations in Development: From African Research to Policy Change

Join us for an evening at Aga Khan University’s Graduate School of Media and Communications, with Andy Burness, President of global communications firm Burness. We’ll be joined by panelists from the African Academy of Sciences, African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) and the Mawazo Institute to discuss communications as a vehicle for translating research into policy change.

The evening will kick off with a short lecture by Mr. Burness entitled, “Practical Communications Strategies for Influencing a Better World.” His talk will be followed by the first Conversations in Development.

By bringing together Africa’s science, development, and media communities, Burness’ Conversations in Development series hopes to foster new connections and exchanges around timely topics, including global health, environmental progress, food security, and human rights. These conversations will also offer an opportunity to hear about the latest research in these fields -- and the best ways to communicate that research in a way that makes a difference.

On January 30, the conversation will focus on the importance of African-led research and policy change, and specifically, how strategic communication of research has informed and even influenced policy change on the continent. We hope to learn from this dialogue to spur further action that could help improve lives. We’ll be joined by:

  • Andy Burness, Harvard professor and President of Burness
  • Rose Mutiso, Co-Founder and CEO of Mawazo Institute
  • Dr. Isayvani Naicker, Director Strategy and Partnerships, The African Academy of Sciences (AAS)
  • Dr. Eliya M. Zulu, Executive Director and Founder of the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP)

Following the panel discussion, we’ll continue the conversation over hors d'oeuvres.

We look forward to seeing you there! Please register or RSVP to Nancy Moss at nmoss@burness.com /+254 729 991 028 to reserve your spot.
